Abstract

This work described the main characteristics of the 2018-2019 winter season. For the analysis of this winter season we used the information received from the cold fronts summaries of each of the provincial meteorological centers, which were affected by those systems, as well as the chronological data on the cold fronts of the Forecast Center archive of the Institute of Meteorology. The winter season 2018-2019 began on October 28, 2018 with the arrival in Cuba of the first cold front and extended until April 20, 2019, the day that affected the cold front number 18, the last of this winter season. This winter season was classified as normal in relation to climate value (19 FF per season), González (1999). For the first time in 23 years a cold front classified as strong came to the province of Pinar del Río (Cold Front No. 12). The analysis of the sea surface temperature in the equatorial Pacific and its incidence on the behavior of the 2018-2019 winter season is also discussed. It highlights the wind and temperature fields associated with the cold fronts that affected the Cuban territory.
