Abstract

This work describes the main characteristics of the 2020–2021 winter season. For the analysis of this winter season, was used the information received from the summaries of cold fronts each of the Provincial Meteorological Centers, which were affected by these systems, as well as chronological data on the cold fronts from the archive of the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology. The 2020-2021 winter season for Cuba began on November 30, 2020 with the arrival of the first cold front of the season to the Cuban territory. This date makes this season the one with the latest start, according to the existing records for the province of Havana, since the previous season that later started was 1922-1923, beginning on November 25, 1922. The 2020 -2021 winter season was extended until April 1, 2021, the day that cold front No. 15 and last of it affected. It had a behavior below normal in relation to the climatic value (19 per season), González (1999). The analysis of the sea surface temperature in the equatorial Pacific and its impact on the behavior of the 2020-2021 winter season is also described here.
