Most favorable synoptic conditions for the exploitation of the wind energy in Cuba. Dry raining season
Main Article Content
Abstract
of the wind energy in Cuba were defined and characterized. With a climatological-synoptic approach, the positive anomalous values of the daily
mean wind speed were identified, as well as their causes in a synoptic scale from its subjective classification.
The significant differences between the population belonging to one or another synoptic condition kind were estimated from the stratigraphy of
Z test. As data background, the observational series of the daily mean speed of the wind from 17 weather stations in the period 1977-2009 was taken. Moreover,
the variation and distribution of the frequencies by months of the FSC are examined including a detailed analysis of their effects in the wind patterns on
the diverse selected geographical points. As a result of the previous analysis 14 most favorable synoptic conditions were defined, mainly associated —the 47
%— with the influence of migratory anticyclones of continental origin. The north coast of the mid-eastern region was the most favored one with significant
positive anomalies of the wind mean speed, under the influence of a large group of the FSC including the most frequent ones. Therefore, it confirms this
region as the most suitable in Cuba for the exploitation of the wind as source of energy in the production of electricity.
