Abstract

Considering the positive results of previous experiments, in 2005 started the Rain Enhancement by Cloud Seeding Project. In its first year, this Project was composed by two «subprojects» with different characteristics. The one with more scientific weight is the Randomized Convective Cloud Seeding Experiment in Extended Areas who is being carried out in the province of Camagüey (EXPAREX). In this experiment, the experimental unit is a floating area with fixed dimensions inside which all convective cells with certain conditions are seeded (actually or simulated) following a randomization scheme. The second subproject is the Operational Experiment on Cloud Seeding using ground-based silver iodide generators in the Cauto River Basin (EXOGENTER), which main objective is to enhance rainfall as much as possible over the Cauto Basin to increase the flow of the river and the water intake of the water reservoirs and in the Holguin province as a whole. The application of this method in 2005 seems to have exerted positive influence in the rainfall regime in the target region
