Abstract

With the aim to determine the influence of the circulation of the sea breeze in the power utilization, the information from Meteorological Towers of References located in Caibarién and El Brinco were analyzed in rainy season 2007. To take account the synoptic situation prevailing each day, the sample was divided in three groups: Synoptic flow entering the coast, parallel, and leaving the coast. The wind vertical profiles for each sample were constructed and were obtained the frequency histograms for direction and wind speed at 100 m height. Finally, to establish a comparison between the samples in the power utilization, the average power density of wind was calculated by day in each zone.
Among the main results is found, with a synoptic flow entering to the coast the sea breeze favors to the synoptic flow, even more when the influence of the breeze of first type is strong, being the best synoptic condition for a good advantage of the wind resource. With these conditions the wind speeds remain above 4 m/s more than the 70 per cent of the time in both zones of study, contributing to obtain average power density values over 200 W / square meter.
