Abstract

The Santiago de Cuba International Airport is located at the south of the mountain region of the eastern Cuba, geographic condition that generates the low level wind shear that affects takeoff and landing operations in any moment of the day. A brief analysis is presented of the incident occurred in 1991 in this aerodrome, when an aircraft taking off suffered the effects of this weather condition, as well as the physics and geographic characteristics related with it. A short and more actualized analysis of the behavior of the wind is also carry out, taking into consideration the recurrent reports of turbulence made by the pilots during the approach to land or take off phases.
