Community environmental education for adapting to the climate change from integrated watershed and coastal area management approach
Main Article Content
Abstract
The preparation of the whole society for adaptation to climate change is a subject of great interest for Cuba, due to the magnitude and seriousness of this phenomenon given its irreversible character, hence there is urgency to educate the population in general and in particular the communities, from emerging approaches, such as the case of the Integrated Watersheds and Coastal Areas Management (IWCAM). Consequently, this work considered as objective to base theoretically the need of carrying out actions the Community Environmental Education (CEE) from the IWCAM approach as one of the ways to contribute to the adaptation of society to the effects of climate change. For the development of this work, it was necessary to review bibliography on this topic and also to develop various workshops where was possible the construction of epistemological consensuses in this regard, which has allowed identifying some theoretical premises considering the multidimensionality that should characterize this modality of environmental education to respond to the educational needs of the context. The foundations established lead us to consider that the IWCAM approach should be conceived as a powerful instrument to guide the CEE, which it would be socializing the environmental culture necessary for the adaptation of human groups to the effects of climate change. An educated community, for this purpose and from this perspective, would build a system of values based on new knowledge and reflections to develop contextual skills that allow to them to reorder their priorities in function of the adaptation and from their own interests with awareness and strengthening of their relationships social and cultural values.
