Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of air mass origin on the ionic composition of rain in Cuba´s localities. Daily rainwater samples were obtained from pollution monitoring station of La Palma, Casablanca and Veguitas. Different chemical analyses were conducted using ion chromatography and an optical emission spectrophotometer with inductively coupled plasma. The  regresive air mass trajectories were obtained using the HYbrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model. Results show that Casablanca´s acid rains were related to back trajectories coming from Atlantic (eastern sector). La Palma´s acid rains were related to back trajectories coming from north of South America. However in Veguitas were observed basic rains.
