Abstract

The coastal area of Jaruco Boca is located in the northwestern region of Cuba. In this coastal area, gas plant Energas is located, and around it, the main activity is the extraction of fossil fuels. For this reason, a study of the potential for contamination of the gas plant, based on lagrangian models Oilmap, Gnome and Tari was performed. Oceanographic and meteorological in situ information and ocean circulation models are used. Numerical results support that Energas gas plant, given its geographical position, the system prevailing currents and the exploitation activities around this, has the contamination danger by oil spills. Similarly, the Florida Keys have a high probability of contamination.
