The Spatial Distribution of the Local Severe Storms in Cuba

Abstract

In this paper a set of maps that constitute the spatial distribution of Severe Local Storms in Cuba, for 28-year period between 1980-2007 is presented. For its development, it was necessary the collection and validation of each data from reports, considering the data base designed by Alfonso of 1980-1986 and updated to 2007 as part of research projects on Severe Local Storms in the Institute of Meteorology. Each report were associated to the geographical coordinates of the locality in which severity were observed and organized in Office Excel 2003 format for processing in MapInfo version 8.0 whose output were different maps presented in the results, showing the general spatial distribution of severe local storms and type of severity in Cuba. Each map, including bimonthly, were examined to reach the consistent analysis that is presented.
