Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate heat stress on dairy cattle in Güáimaro, Camagüey province, since 2000 to 2005, for which was determined the temperature humidity index (ITH), used as heat stress indicator and computed from the tri-hourly air temperature data and air relative humidity data of the Palo Seco Meteorological Station. Simulation models were used to determine the amount of hours that the cattle were exposed to heat stress. The highest values of ITH occur in the rainy season and, therefore, the heat stress is greater, evaluating mild to moderate. In the dry season, the dairy cattle are in better condition, with a significant number of days for which no heat stress occurs and other days in which the daily duration of heat stress is very small.
