Abstract

Knowledge of meteorological phenomena is relevant for their incidence on people, the economy and the environment. In order to carry on climatic studies of different phenomena, long as complete as possible data series are needed. The purpose of this work is to evaluate quality criteria for current weather state code series, as a phenomena classifying variable at 69 stations on Cuban territory and suggest time lapses and hours for further climatic studies. 98.5 % of current weather state code series in all stations can be considered as good, very good or excellent, with regard to the amount of information contained, being the lack of night time observations the main limiting issue. It is recommended to use the period 1989-2010 for further climatic studies, except for daily courses, for which the recommended period is 2005-2010.
