Abstract

Currently, the atmosphere pollution is one of the main environmental problems faced by humanity. In Cuba, the atmosphere pollution is also one of the major environmental problems, which was ratified in the National Environmental Strategy (CITMA, 2007). This research sought to know how to disperse the air pollutants emitted by the Antillana de Acero in the municipality Cotorro. The hypothesis of research assumed that the greatest negative impact on air quality due to the air pollutants dispersion emitted by this industry, takes place within the city limits. For that reason, we applied the air dispersion model as DISPER 4 in order to characterize the spatial distribution of pollutants. The model was running to 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., in which we used the average values for meteorological variables and parameters in the period 2006-2010. It was made a run for a critical scenario under unfavorable weather conditions obtaining the maximum concentration values. The modeling results show that particulate matter was the main pollutant emitted from steel foundry source. Sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide were main pollutants emitted by 250 and 300 furnaces.
