Abstract

Volcanic stratospheric aerosols cause an important and long-term perturbation in the earth-atmosphere radiative balance. These consequently, produce a response from the climatic system. This paper show, by first time in Cuba, perturbations caused by Mount Pinatubo eruption in the radiative fluxes and heating rate over Camagüey. Stratospheric aerosols Measurements from Camagüey Lidar Station and a radiative code developed at GFDL, and adapted to our conditions, were employed.
Aerosol radiative forcing space-time distributions show the stratospheric heating and the tropospheric cooling over Camagüey. Stratosphere responses are analyzed, through the diurnal behavior of heating rate, considering the stratospheric volcanic aerosols. Both, maximum and minimum aerosol loads situations are considered, January 1992 and December 1993, respectively. Aerosol Radiative forcing exceeds -9 W/(squared metre) and the perturbation maximum values of heating rate reach 1,0 K/d.
