Abstract

Local Storms (SLS) occurrence in the wet season in Cuba, from 1980 to 2002 were gathered and related with daily data of various synoptic fields from different levels. A set of synoptic patterns favourable for the SLS formation over the Cuban Territory was obtained. Over the basis of seven atmospheric levels and five variables, a statistical processing methodology was developed. This methodology, attempt to a dimensional reduction for the phase space, using a Principal Component approach, followed by a step by step cluster analysis. An initial set of 10 synoptic patterns was obtained. Each pattern represents a set of three-dimensional structures of synoptic fields. A general discussion on the characteristics of each pattern was developed
