Abstract

An expert system named ROSET (Resolución Objetiva por Sistema Experto de Tormentas) in its version 2.0 is presented for the prediction of synoptic patterns favorable for SLS occurrence in Cuba. ROSET is conceived as a supporting tool for the prediction, monitoring and warning of SLS in the Cuban Meteorological Service. One of its main goal is substantially improve the Meteorological Monitoring Service by increasing the capacity in releasing Early Warnings on SLS occurrence. ROSET was developed from a knowledge basis, specially created for it and using and extensive bibliographical study on SLS, enriched by a deep analysis of the Cuban Climate. A data base of Facts was included to characterize the synoptic patterns related to the SLS formation. A set of rules acts in the inference mechanism and the users inter-phase was designed through a simple mechanism of «true» or «false» inputs.
