Abstract

The wind and wind wave forecasts in presence of the hurricanes “Ivan” and “Paloma”, on the Inter-American Sea, using a numerical model combination MM5V3+WW3, are described. The GFS meteorological fi eld output, free available, was used as input to the mesoscale atmospheric circulation model MM5V3. The MM5V3 wind fi eld output, for his part, was used as the WW3 input data, which represents the wind wave fi eld and its time-space evolution. The bathimetry and shore confi guration data were taken from the Atlas GEBCO-2003. The work domain resolution presents an space step of 27 km, in a net of 145X82 points; it is located between the 10-30°N and the 60-98°W, with the center on 23°N with 80°W 23°. Both models run in personal computers, so the proposal solution at the present text is very economic. All the environmental, pre and post data procedures, were elaborated by the present text authors. The fi nal results are satisfactory, especially on the hurricane maximum wind area.
