Abstract

The origin of the Paleopedology is illustrated as the result of the historical evolution of the conceptions about the tight climate-soil type relationships: soil types and soil properties can be used to establish the past climate and ecological conditions under which the soil had been formed and evolved. There are different outlooks about the Cuban climate evolution during the Quaternary; the history of the 25 years debate is detailed exposed. The schematic representation of climate distribution in Cuba during the Wisconsin period is shown, briefly are enumerated the soil and geographical indexes used to conform the scheme. Some features of Cuban Late-Pleistocene and Early-Holocene climate and environment are revealed. During the glacial period there were about 9 different climates in Cuba; on the planes the arid climates dominated. The arid climate abruptly changed into a hyperpluvial period which persists until 5000 years BP.
